KPCSD Winter Weather-Related Information and Calendar

Posted Date: 12/16/25 (07:00 PM)

December 16, 2025

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This past weekend was a reminder that we live in the northeast and snow is now possible at any time through the month of March.  While we have experienced two relatively mild winters over the past two years, we may not be as lucky this winter.

First, I want to personally thank our buildings and grounds staff, custodians, maintenance staff, mechanics, bus drivers and Town of Smithtown Highway Department for working hard to ensure that we could open school on time this past Monday morning.   Most districts to our south and east were not as lucky.

Second, I want to take this opportunity to review the 2025-2026 calendar and how the school district would adapt if/when snow days are needed later this winter.

  • If we need to take one (1) snow day, schools will be closed, and we will have a “typical” snow day.  Friday, May 22nd would then become a normal school day.
  • If we need to take a second snow day, the district will provide students with remote instruction (see attached).  While we realize that this is less than ideal, this would allow us to preserve the April Spring Recess.  Any additional snow days would be treated in the same manner.
As always, thank you for your support and cooperation as we look to navigate weather-related issues over the coming months.
Sincerely,

Timothy T. Eagen, Ed.D.
