Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Kings Park Central School District was founded in 1844.  This means that this September we will be opening our classroom doors for children for the 181st time.  Wow!  Kings Park has been a great place to live, work, and raise a family for nearly two centuries!

I am truly sorry to be the one to deliver the signal that the summer’s end is fast approaching. This will be my 12th school opening as your educational leader here in Kings Park.  I am proud to serve as your superintendent and excited as we look to begin another school year!

While the summer seems to have flown by, I hope it provided you and your family time to have fun, recharge, and rejuvenate.  I am looking forward with excitement and optimism to the reopening of our schools on Wednesday, September 3rd.

I am a firm believer that all students should graduate with an actionable plan for their future. In an effort to best support and continue this important work, our theme for the coming school year will continue to be Learning and Preparing for My Future.  This theme is applicable for our students, as they look to learn and prepare for life beyond graduation – whether that path leads them to further study at a college or university, trade apprenticeship or career, or service in the military.  Our theme is also aligned with the recent and ongoing work at the New York State Education Department (NYSED) on Portrait of a Graduate.  NYSED released some updates over the summer (see graphic on the next page) that we will be unpacking over the course of the coming school year. As a reminder, in accordance with a new state law that was approved by lawmakers this past spring, with very few exceptions, students cannot use internet enables devices on school grounds during the school day.  Details were shared with you earlier this summer and are printed in the school district calendar, which was recently mailed home to all residents.

On the KPCSD website you will find a short presentation that includes both the details of this theme and the District’s draft goals for the 2025-2026 school year.  As we have for the past several years, we will continue to emphasize both mental health and educating the whole child.  We will work this year to ensure that all students and adults in our schools are engaged and feel welcome, connected, supported, and safe.   We are one Kings Park FAMILY!

If you have not already done so, please log into the eSchool Parent Portal to access student schedules and busing information (if applicable).

On August 28th when the teachers return to work for the first of two conference days, we will welcome several new staff members into our Kings Park Family.  Due to a few retirements, a few resignations and leaves, and a handful of new positions, we have about 5 or 6 new faces district-wide.  This is an exciting time for them as they begin their Kings Park career.

We look forward to seeing your child(ren) on Wednesday, September 3rd – the First Day of School!  We have all greatly missed the students these past two months, and we look forward to seeing and working with Kings Park’s children once again!  Enjoy Labor Day and the last few days of the summer and get ready to return renewed for another great school year!

Sincerely,

Timothy T. Eagen, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
